The HP EliteBook 8740w is the big brother to the HP EliteBook 8440w that was named the SmallBizWindows Laptop of the Year.
For our mobile workstation category, we required a minimum screen size of 17”, a quad-core processor , workstation-class graphics, and 4 GB of RAM at the barest minimum.
How did the 8740w become the Mobile Workstation of the Year?
Well, take the goodness of the 8440, all the time remembering that it is indeed a workstation-class system, mix in the following:
- 17” HP DreamColor laptop display,
- Intel quad-core Core i7 CPU
- Nvidia Quadro FX3800M 1GB
- 4 GB RAM
- Windows 7 Professional; or in my case, Windows 7 Ultimate Edition x64
What you then have, is a computer system that allows you to take all your compute- and graphics-intensives projects on the road!
While the engineering pedigree of HP’s workstations is not in doubt, having them infuse it into a mobile product, and do it so well is welcome.
