Shiny New Thing: Microsoft Surface Pro 3 256GB
I am in possession of a new Microsoft Surface Pro 3 for a short time review.
Prior to the announcement of Surface Pro 3, I had obtained a Surface Pro 2 512GB for review here as a counterfoil to the HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1. However, I returned that device when the Pro 3 was announced, for the very obvious reasons.
I had thought we (me and Logikworx EVP Rod K.) wouldn’t be getting Pro 3 devices until when the Core i7-based tablets ship, but the confluence of two factors made me get this unit: 1) Wifey was out of the country, and 2) I just had to try it.
I will be passing this unit off to Rod for his own tests when I’m done with it.
This unit is a mid-spec device, sporting the following:
-
Intel Core i5
-
8GB RAM
-
256 GB storage
-
A red Surface Pro 3 Keyboard.
Having to pay for a keyboard, for a device Microsoft is touting as a MacBook replacement is beyond annoying: it is rather stupid, and small-minded. Microsoft should only make (sic.) apples-to-apples comparisons.
The thing is, I have been using the afore-mentioned HP EliteBook, and to great success, I might add. Moreover, once Microsoft starts shipping the 512 GB Core i7 devices, I will be getting that for myself.
Will Surface Pro 3 be good enough to wean me off the EliteBook?
We have to wait and see. As of today though, Surface Pro 3 finds itself playing second-fiddle to the EliteBook Folio 1040 G1.
Meanwhile, let’s do this!
